Geotechnical and Transportation Faculty

The geotechnical and transportation faculty contribute to the civil engineering program a well-balanced expertise of fundamentals and practical experience.

	Tae-Hyuk Kwon Assistant Professor Research: Energy geotechnology - CO2 sequestration, MEHR, and gas hydrates; wave-based techniques and smart sensor application to geo-engineering; fundamental bio-physico-chemo-geo processes in soils Teaching: Geotechnical Engineering taehyuk.kwon@wsu.edu		Balasingam Muhunthan Professor Research: Constitutive modeling of geomaterials, computational geomechanics, microstructure characterization of geomaterials, debris flows, transport in porous media, computational geomechanics and fundamentals of soil behavior: critical state soil mechanics, micromechanics of soils, physico-chemical behavior of clays. Teaching: Geotechnical Engineering, Advanced Experimental Methods in Geotechnical Engineering, Foundations, Soil and Site Improvement, Numerical Modeling of Geomaterials, In situ Testing and Field Instrumentation muhuntha@wsu.edu
	Shihui Shen Assistant Professor Director of WCAT Research: Asphalt material characterization and mix design; asphalt binder rheology and modeling; pavement management, maintenance, and rehabilitation; energy mechanism for material characterization (crack damage, healing, etc.) Teaching: Pavement design sshen2@wsu.edu		Haifang Wen Assistant Professor Research: Constitutive modeling of pavement materials; Recycled materials and byproducts utilization; Pavement evaluation and rehabilitation haifang_wen@wsu.edu
