Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Welcome to CEE

Undergraduate Program

In addition to the required junior introductory 300-level courses in Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering, a number of elective 400-level courses can be taken which allow a certain degree of specialization in the Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering Program at the undergraduate level. Some of these elective courses place a strong emphasis on design, while others offer hands-on exposure to laboratory testing methods.

Additional courses are available through the University of Idaho's Department of Civil Engineering.

Certification

Certification into the department is the formal acceptance of the student by the department to pursue a professional academic program in that department. An undergraduate may apply for certification as a major within the department after completion of 30 semester hours, and must apply after 60 semester hours. Certification is awarded on the basis of each student's record at WSU and previous educational performance.Students who will be completing courses at the end of the semester including CE 211, Math 171, 172, and Phys 201 or equivalents are eligible to apply for certification. The number of students certified into the department depends upon the available resources and facilities. The best qualified students, based on cumulative GPA and grades in the prerequisite courses listed above will be certified into the department until the carrying capacity is reached. Applications are reviewed at the end of each semester

Transfer Students

Students who are planning to transfer to civil engineering at Washington State University from other institutions should coordinate their program with the department chairperson to establish an integrated program leading to the bachelor's degree. Inquiries concerning specific questions are welcome. A strong preparation in mathematics and physics is necessary prior to transfer to minimize the time required to complete the degree requirements. The requirements for direct entry into the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering upon transfer are the same as listed above for certification. The Admissions Office will handle admissions applications from transfer students and the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering will handle certification applications
