Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Structural Engineering & Materials Overview

Academic Programs

The Structural Engineering and Materials Program provides a strong basis for a career in professional practice, research, or teaching. Within the University's and Department's curricula, programs of study are tailored to fit individual student needs and interests, whether broad-based and multidisciplinary or narrowly focused and highly technical.

Research

The Structural Engineering and Materials Program offers a broad range of educational and research opportunities. Much of the research effort is in collaboration with the College's Composite Materials & Engineering Center. Specific areas of research emphasis within the Structural Engineering and Materials Program include:

Within the Civil Engineering discipline are several areas of specialization, including Structural Engineering. As tomorrow's structural engineer, you will face the challenge of providing safe and economical structures for a changing society. We must simultaneously maintain and improve our aging infrastructure, increase our efficiency in utilization of construction materials, as well as plan for and design tomorrow's built environment. The interactions and interdependence between construction materials and the structure in which they are used require an integrated approach, such as that offered at WSU.
