Welcome to CEE

Advising

Your Advisor and You

Each student in CE is advised by the Undergraduate Academic Coordinator, Brooke Whiting, and is assigned a faculty advisor who assists in the selection of classes and registration and provides counsel as needed throughout the year. Advisors help students evaluate career options, discuss academic problems, and provide referral to other resources on campus as appropriate. Students should meet with their advisors periodically during each semester to discuss progress and concerns. Because an advisor must meet with many students during registration week, make an appointment for a meeting with your advisor at a later time to familiarize him/her with your personal and academic goals. Your advisor can become a valuable resource person for future academic support and for letters of recommendation.

Every undergraduate student is required to meet with an advisor every semester to have their Advising Hold released.  There is a two step process in the CEE department.  Each student will meet with Brooke Whiting who will assist the student understand General Education Requirements (GERs), apply for certification and graduation when appropriate, and determine which courses they are ready to take next based on meeting pre-requisites, etc.  The student will set up a meeting with their assigned faculty advisor through Brooke Whiting.  The faculty advisor will confirm the schedule with the student, discuss internship and/or job possibilities, answer questions about Civil and Environmental Engineering, and assist the student in choosing senior electives.  After meeting with the faculty advisor, students will be given an Advisor Evaluation Form, which they need to complete and return to Brooke Whiting.  Their advising hold will be released prior to the registration date.
